I had my first Pilates experience at the wonderful be Pilates on Chiltern Street last week and I had the BEST time!!!
I can't believe I've never tried Pilates but feeling so thankful that my first experience was at be Pilates with talented teacher Emma as she was so thorough and patient and made both me and my friend Sonia who came along with me feel so comfortable and not silly at all for not knowing any of the basics! If I'm honest thats what kept me from trying it out for so long as I was afraid of feeling a bit silly as I know so many Pilates pros and they seem to seriously know their stuff that I felt so far behind I wasn't sure how I'd be able to catch up, but I really needn't have worried.
We had the option of trying out a matt or reformer Pilates class and naturally I wanted to try the most challenging and the reformer machine looked a bit scary and incredibly interesting so I couldn't wait to try it out for myself and see if I could actually handle it! sounds a bit wimpish of me but a few friends of mine warned me how hardcore it is and how they struggled with it!
I can honestly say I'm SO glad we went for the reformer class as I feel like by the end of the session I got to grips- even if it was the very, very basic grips of how it works and what its all about and my opinion of Pilates has completely changed....
I naively used to think of Pilates as not being 'intense' or hardworking enough...oh how wrong was I!! I walked out of the gorgeous be Pilates studio feeling AMAZING and achy- in a great, great way.
I learnt during my lesson that Pilates is a mind-body exercise- its about stretching, strengthening and balancing the body enabling you to move with grace, embrace and make the most of your strengths, counteract any weaknesses and correct any imbalances and I think literally everyone would benefit from regular Pilates lessons, I feel so good from it and felt so connected to my body during my class that it made me realise this is the one thing missing from my exercise and wellbeing regime. I can imagine incorporating Pilates into your life will work WONDERS for your body, mental state and general health and wellbeing.
