TAN: High End vs High Street

Sunday, 21 August 2011

I am always, always on the hunt to find the perfect fake tan, one that ticks all the right boxes in terms of colour, ease of application and price...  I don't ask for much, just a tan that leaves me looking naturally bronzed and beautiful and doesn't cost a fortune.

I have always adored Fake Bake tanning products and spray tans and was lucky enough to have my very own fake bake consultant (aka best friend) when I was at Uni, who treated me to lovely spray tans and discounted Fake Bake products which I loved of course and greatly appreciated!! However, university is over and I'm now living in London so until she does the same and moves here too I need to find a tanning product that fulfils all of my tanning needs... this is where Vita Liberata and Loreal Sublime Bronze come in for the ultimate test of High end vs High street.

Vita Liberata, also known as the 'A' list odourless tan and worn by the likes of Kelly Brook, Rachel Stevens and even Olly Murs (as Vita Liberta is the offical x factor tan), got me very intrigued especially as my friend from work recommended it to me giving it a huge 10/10! So me being me, I had to give it a go and see what all the fuss was about.
The Verdict-
I give this tan a strong 8.5 out of 10 because it is VERY quick and easy to apply and doesn't particularly smell (yay) as some fake tans smell horrible!! It dries fairly quickly and develops within a couple of hours so I suggest applying it the night before to give it time to develop properly. I liked the fact it was clear in colour and didn't rub off on my bed sheets so you can relax and not have to worry about it going everywhere. I also love the overall result, the tan looks natural and lasts about 5 days. The very best bit is you don't have to exfoliate it off it just fades away almost like a real tan! However, I would say you do need to apply quite a bit in order to create a deep enough tan, especially on your legs. For just over £20 I am seriously impressed.

Loreal Sublime Bronze- I'm not overly impressed with this tan and give it a very average 6 out of 10.... For the price of this product (£15.51) I would expect to get a few more applications than the three that I got out of it. I wasn't overly impressed when I was half way through spraying my body the night before my graduation to find it completely ran out when I got to my legs especially as it was 11:30pm!!Need I say more?!.... Nightmare.
However I did like the spray nozzle was very easy to use and gave a fairly even application most of the time. My biggest criticism of Loreal sublime bronze was that when it starts to fade and come off it literally looks awful!! Unbelievably patchy and very obvious.... Apart from all of that its brilliant!! haha.

To sum up, when it comes to tan I really do think out of all of the high street tans I have experienced, (and believe me I have experienced many) spending slightly more money on your tanning product really does pay off. My high end personal favourites being; Fake Bake, St Tropez and now my latest tanning fixVita Liberata as overall they are a pleasure to use and give the most even, natural looking tan which tends to last a lot longer  thus eliminating the never ending game of chance that comes with self tanning.
